Digital representation of DNS records flowing into cloud servers for data resolution

Now that my Atlassian account is set up and my domain is live, I jumped into the Namecheap dashboard → “Manage” → “Advanced DNS” to wire things up the way Atlassian needs.

Verifying your domain in Atlassian does two important things:

  • It proves you own the domain (via DNS TXT or HTTP file).
  • It turns matching Atlassian accounts into managed accounts, so you can enforce security policies, SSO, and org‑level controls later.

You can read more in Atlassian’s docs:
🔗 Verify a domain to manage accounts

🔗 Verify domains and claim managed accounts

From the admin.atlassian.com, click Domain, add your domain and it will show a DNS record, then go to Namecheap and add the DNS record as below:

🧩 Log into Namecheap and select Domain List from the left sidebar.
Click Manage next to your domain.
Switch to the Advanced DNS tab.

Add TXT Record

Click Add New Record and select TXT Record from the dropdown.

  • Host: Enter @ (for root domain) or the subdomain if specified.
  • Value: Paste the exact TXT string from Atlassian (e.g., “atlassian-domain-verification=…”).
  • TTL: Set to 86400 (24 hours) or Automatic (30 minutes).

Click the green checkmark to save. ✅

Return to admin.atlassian.com > Directory > Domains, click Verify domain.
Check status periodically; if “UNVERIFIED,” wait for propagation (use tools like DNS Propagation Checker – Global DNS Checker Tool ).
Once verified, claim accounts and proceed with organization setup. In Atlassian Cloud, individual users own their accounts by default, which means that have more control over them than you, even as an admin.

To get more control, you need to verify that you own the email domain (for example, @jkminfotech.com) that is used by these accounts. Once you do, all accounts from your domain become managed accounts, which transfers the ownership to you.🧩
